I set my trap on Wednesday, this week. This morning (Thursday) I was excited to see what might be in there. I got up, got dressed and went to the river. Nothing was in the trap. I looked across the river and there was a ginormous racoon staring back at me. After lunch, I went back to the river and scouted out new places to put my snares and traps. I am determined!!! I tracked a coon. It was exciting! I tried to follow his tracks, but many had been washed away. When the hill dries up, I will put a trap there, next to the rock firepit. If it were not so muddy from all the recent rains, I would have already put one there. Hopefully, soon, Daddy and Momma will allow me to carry my hunting gun to the river, rather than just my air-pistol.
And this is Cooter.
He is Shell's partner in "crime" and misadventures. Not sure who starts what, or who has more of either!
Cooter is ornery, loud and frustrating. Course so is HIS partner!!! LOL
Cooter is a mixture of Plot Hound & Walker Hound. Brindle in color. He has long velveteen ears, much like a bunny.
Shell is working with him to train him - but more often than not, it appears that Cooter is training Shell.
This is the beginning of Shell's trap lines for this coming winter.
He will be trapping for foxes, raccoons, rabbits, hogs - wild hogs, NOT Kyla's Miss Bluebonnet. And yes, Shell was warned STERNLY about this! LOL
Of course, this means some training and certification for carrying and using a gun. Which for this cowboy - means perfection!!!!!
Shell is growing and changing seems daily. He is becoming a fine young man. He has many adventures - probably more MISadventures than he would like to admit.
He has a number of interests, which is what he wants to share with you here.
His horse is Yogi. His dog is Cooter. Together they made a threesome that gives a whole new meaning to the word "misadventure". LOL
One of Shell's hero's is Tom Sawyer. And he probably does ol' Tom very proud!!! Shell lives that life more often than WE would like to admit! LOL
Shell is an accomplished horse rider, who works weekly from the saddle He seems to get better every time he sits atop Yogi.
He also rides the broncs at the various bronc-bustings in the area - and as far out of the area as time and money will allow him to go.
He enjoys fishing and fur trapping - both on the Brazos River, just a few hundred feet backside of the house.
His desire is to be a ranch cowboy when he grows up - like his daddy and his Uncle Alva are.
